About this Recipe
Instant Pot Yellow Split Pea Soup is a spin-off of our original Instant Pot Split Pea Soup, which so many of you got creative with and shared ideas for. I love that you...
✓ 6 cups water (plus more for soaking) ✓ 3 cups small cubed ham ✓ 5 medium carrots (1" thick rounds-peeled) ✓ 2 cups yellow split peas (soak in hot water for 20 minutes prior-drain before adding to recipe) ✓ 2 tablespoons bacon fat (for best results-otherwise use fat of choice) ✓ 1 teaspoon turmeric ✓ 1 teaspoon chili powder ✓ 1 teaspoon coriander ✓ 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional-the ham is already salty so use your judgement based on personal preference) ✓ 1/4 teaspoon piri piri (African hot pepper powder) (optional-or cayenne)
✓ Soak peas in hot water (for 30 minutes) ✓ Turn on IP to saute, add bacon fat ✓ Chop ham, put in IP ✓ Saute ham in IP with bacon fat for 10-20 minutes, stirring frequently until browned ✓ Peel and chop carrots ✓ Add to IP, turn off ✓ Add hot water to IP, then slowly stir in spices ✓ Drain peas, (discard water) and add to pot last ✓ Close and lock lid, turn knob to seal and set on "soup" for 13 minutes ✓ Allow to NPR* for at least 20 minutes, QR** at your own risk, we recommend a full NPR* for best results.
