Wow, already a month in? Here are my final thoughts…
While I may be at the end of this blog post series, I am at the beginning of a new journey with my health, one that I am so excited to maintain and build upon! We’re almost halfway into the year, and the first few months I was feeling so discouraged with my progress. When I turned 30, I had a goal of getting back to the best physical condition of my adult life, and quite simply, I totally failed but had made peace with it for the time being and focused on excelling in other areas, like building our businesses and taking some continuing education courses. In my attempts, I had tried some pretty extreme dietary changes last year, alongside falling way off track and relying on convenience foods due to a busy schedule, only to find myself in a worse position than I started with regard to my overall health.
This book really came to me at the perfect time. I was feeling more motivated and already starting to follow a similar plan minus the timing of certain foods. By using the methods and plan that Joel created in the book always eat after 7:00 p.m., I have found that the slight diet shift for me has been so helpful. Combined with my daily live workouts with friends via Zoom calls, I feel so motivated to continue on this journey. Even though I had made peace with the extra weight (hello curves!) and did not set out to lose a lot of weight necessarily (just the persistent bloat), it turns I have lost 10 lbs so far with my increased exercise and following Joel’s plan. I noticed that I feel so much better as far as energy levels and am way happier with my body composition, plus I can be more effective in my exercise as I’ve become stronger again too! I can see my muscle definition again everywhere, and I feel like I am not as bloated all the time in the evenings, plus I feel more full with way less food. Definitely appreciative of those bonus wins!

As I mentioned, after trying so many diets and restrictions in the last year, I felt super discouraged…
Since trying this plan out, I have found that the way that Joel’s meal plans are set up are far more sustainable for me.
One example would be using the easy measuring methods for macronutrients, rather than spending so much time counting out or weighing food every couple hours, or completely eliminating whole food groups or types. The intermittent fasting window seemed a little daunting to commit to, but it’s started to feel like nothing to me. I even occasionally incorporate longer fasting periods depending on my situation, and how my body feels. There is a lot of data and research in the book about the benefits of fasting, which I really enjoyed reading more about.
During this time, I had started trying out some complimentary BioTrust supplements from Joel as well, and I like the way that they make me feel during the fasting window, and also love the taste. It’s pretty hard to get greens powder to taste good without added junk, but this one is literally like a little fruity treat! A little info about one of my favorite supplements from BioTrust: The MetaboGreens are Raw, vegan, and free from pesticides and herbicides, GMOs, gluten, dairy, soy, and artificial sweeteners. For more about those, check out the details here: #AD Check Out MetaboGreens. Incorporating the MetaboGreens into my smoothie or morning pre-workout has been awesome, I feel like I’m getting the nourishment I need with this meal plan and extra boosts from the supplements.
I can’t wait to see how much more benefits I get from staying in the lifestyle face going forward. The cool thing about the lifestyle phase is that one of the suggestions is to have some sort of a “cheat day” on the plan. So, pizza once a week definitely fits in! All in all, my experience with trying out this program was that it did not feel as much like a diet as I thought it would. It definitely felt like a slight shift from what I was previously doing, and now it feels like a sustainable way to make sure I’m getting what I need and not overdoing it. I definitely think that having a support network can be key in sticking with any diet, but also choosing a diet that is sustainable by nature.
For me, going forward I’ll definitely reference this book and continue to try new things in the kitchen to keep it interesting. I’m so grateful for having access to inspirational people like Joel to keep my motivation up. Another key aspect for me will be keeping in touch with closer friends who are on board with a healthy lifestyle that works for them. One last quote from Joel’s book to further demonstrate what I have found to be true in my experience: “Fact is, most diets are extremely narrow with regard to food choices and variety, and many even limit entire macronutrients altogether over the course of the entire program (think low-carb and low-fat diets). Three months with no carbs? No thanks. Such practices not only are entirely unnecessary, but make for a miserable, unsustainable experience.” Yes, yes, and yes!
