Instant Pot Lentils and Rice

Instant Pot Lentils and Rice

Apparently, I have been missing out on lentils and rice up until recently. I liked the idea of this recipe but wasn’t fully sold until I tried it a variety of ways. Going with the amounts of water I would have used for the lentils and rice separately, then of course adding some spices, it turned out to be really delish. After many attempts to perfect the flavor, even testing it out on my coworkers at a potluck, it is finally complete. Final thoughts: We found the spice level to be just perfect but of course, you can adjust it or omit the cayenne/Piri Piri if you wish. At 15 minutes, the lentils ended up “Al dente” and the rice sticky, which made for a nice combo. You can add a slight bit more or less water or adjust the time up/down to have them more to your texture preference. […]

Himalayan Salt Scrub Review-Majestic Pure

I recently received Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals Himalayan Salt Scrub at a discount for testing purposes, and I absolutely love it! Here is my honest review of the product. Himalayan salt scrub is said to have many benefits that include: helping detoxify the body by balancing systemic pH, helping improve hydration and mineral status of the body, and reduce muscle cramps by improving mineral hydration. The best benefit in my opinion is that it could maybe help after intense workouts instead of using NSAID pain relievers! I also really love the fact that it contains only real, recognizable,  simple ingredients: Himalayan salt, Sweet Almond Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Grape Seed Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Lychee Fruit Essential Oil, Vitamin E, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice. It has a very nice feel with application and smells amazing, fruity and a little perfumey as well. After rinsing my skin felt moisturized and softer. I will say be mindful when […]

Caviar Serum Review-Majestic Pure

I recently received Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals Caviar Anti-Aging Serum at a discount for testing purposes, and I loved it! Here is my review of the product. Caviar Extract is said to promote skin rejuvenation with a chemical composition similar to that of young epidermal cells, protein and nutrient rich with large proportions of essential fatty acids, amino acids, minerals, salts, vitamin B, zinc and iron. The Caviar anti-aging serum certainly did help improve my skins appearance and fine lines/wrinkles. I really like that it is only recommended for use every 3-4 days, this is a lot easier to remember than daily! With using 1 pump every 3-4 days, this container will last awhile, which is another benefit! I love the fact that it doesn’t feel harsh on my skin at all-and when I use it before bed it stays on to work overnight, then I wake up and go about my […]

Hot Cream Review-Majestic Pure

I recently received Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals Hot Cream at a discount for testing purposes, and I absolutely love it! Here is my honest review of the product. Hot Cream is said to provide benefits with topical application, which include soothing and relaxing tight tired muscles after a workout, with powerful ingredients such as peppermint and pine which naturally reduce inflammation and alleviate soreness while chamomile and eucalyptus provide relief to muscle. It is also said to help reduce cellulite, burn fat and tighten skin-however I did not test it for these purposes. I love working out but can be a real wimp the days that follow-which usually means I either skip working out until the soreness goes away, or take NSAIDs to relieve the pain/soreness once it sets in. I wanted to try using this in place of over the counter pain relievers in the days following a heavy workout. So I actually did 3 […]

Coffee scrub is said to have several benefits that include: exfoliating and anti-inflammatory properties, temporary reduction of cellulite, improved circulation, reduced eye puffiness, and smooth skin. I wanted to use it to help reduce puffiness and the appearance of dark circles under my eyes-which it did! Before even receiving the product-I noticed the fact that this product is almost entirely organic and contains only real recognizable ingredients: Dead Sea Salt Granules, Dead Sea Salt, Organic Kona Coffee, Organic Olive Oil, Organic Sweet Almond Oil, Organic Grape Seed Oil, Coffee Arabica Seed Oil, Organic Shea Butter, Cacao Extract, Organic Coconut Extract. Fruit and Veggie Smoothie

*post contains affiliate links, read more about that and our medical disclaimers here* Recently I have been craving smoothies, which tends to happen as soon as the sun starts to come out each year. This winter was really cold and snowy, we loved it at first then it got old really quickly! The snow has now melted and we are seeing some beautiful sun most of the days, though it is only around 50 degrees at most, it feels warm! A fresh fruit and veggie smoothie is a great treat regardless of the weather-here is one I have been loving lately. I highly recommend that you use a high powered blender and if you don’t have one, either cut your produce up more or gently steam it (then refrigerate) before blending, otherwise it will just take a long time to get to the right consistency. You can alter this […]

I have spent the last 2-ish years really playing it safe with the Instant Pot… mostly making soup… We make a lot of soup! There’s nothing wrong with soup, I really love it. This year I am determined to branch out and start creating more recipes in the Instant Pot that are anything but soup. I can guarantee you will still find more new soup recipes mixed in here too, I just really love making soup in the IP! We all absolutely LOVED this recipe-I have never seen our kids so willingly eat vegetables and meat! They actually asked for it the night after we ran out of leftovers, that is when I knew it was a hit! When our little lady says “Blog! Oh my gosh, BLOG!” after taking a bite it is a really good sign. This recipe is a great representation of the “Instant” pot since it […]

VitaTops-Healthier Muffin Review

I do try to eat healthy foods in general but do not like to sacrifice taste, and definitely enjoy my fair share of breads and baked goods. I recently tried a delicious new product called VitaTops MuffinTops. These are basically shaped like the top portion of a muffin (the best part) but unlike most other packaged muffins, they are made with cleaner, healthier-for-you ingredients. Since they don’t use any artificial ingredients or preservatives, they require you to freeze them for best results. They’re actually pretty versatile since they need to be frozen. You can eat them a few different ways, as found on their website, here are the most recommended ways to eat them: Terrific Toasted – Toasted VitaTops leave a […]

Making Exercise A Habit

The year 2016 is in the past. The year 2017 is among us. It’s time to take action! Many people strive to set New Year Resolutions. Statistically speaking, about two-thirds of the adult population in the US set some type of fitness goal. Unfortunately, only about 9% of the population manage to stick to their resolution. The ultimate fix: make exercise a habit. “But how do I do that”, I hear you frantically shouting. Personally, I’ve found 3 key methods to make completing your exercise goal stick. 1. Set the Goal   Now, I know what you’re thinking: I already set my goal! Sure, you might have come up with a general idea of what you want, like losing weight or going to the gym. Unfortunately, those kinds of goals are vague and don’t last long. In order to set a solid goal, it must be specific! A good example would […]

We always add some extra Piri-Piri because we like our soup spicier! Use your judgement for the amount of spice you can handle and let us know what worked for you! I have done this same base recipe so many times, using 1 cup celery and 1 cup carrots, without garlic and onion powder and with fresh garlic and onion. We have made it using beef and chicken broth, but I am sure veggie broth would be great as well! We’ve added a cup or two of diced, canned seasoned tomatoes before and have replaced the lentils with both green and yellow split peas with good results. Depending on how you tweak the recipe, it may look […]

DIY: HEALTHY HOMEMADE FACIAL

Guest Post From: Amanda Kintz, RN, of crunchyhippielife.com When I was younger and single (read: more available funds), I used to treat myself to a facial every month. It was a wonderful time of relaxation and pampering, but the $75 price tag made it out of the question once I was married and we had a stricter budget. I still wanted that special “me time,” so after some research, I developed a cheap, easy facial experience using only things in my pantry. The bonus was that these natural products were much healthier for my body! To make this facial, you will need the following: Honey (preferably raw) Coconut Oil (I like this brand of raw organic oil)   Baking Soda Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)  INSTRUCTIONS Step 1: Apply a thin layer of honey to your face. Let it sit for 5 minutes or so. I do this daily as I’m […]

Forget About Healthy Holidays

You DON’T Need To Stay Healthy During “The Holidays” I intended to write a post with ideas for staying healthy during “the holidays” and kind of did… but in a different way than I expected. There is a popular idea that we need to adhere to certain “rules” around the holidays to stay “healthy” and “be good” etc, whatever that means. I hope to inspire some of you reading to maybe look from another perspective, particularly those who may self-shame for indulging during certain times when the “good” thing to do is stay strict…. If you are a die hard stick to the diet person, even against all odds (like holiday temptations) then great for you! If this is a habit or choice that serves you and you feel like you are doing the best thing for your overall health, I support that 100%. Maybe you are one who is just […]

This soup was inspired by a dish that my husband and mother in law make and uses peanut powder, which is not something I had heard of before. We usually make peanut powder at home by blending roasted peanuts on low in the blender, sifting, then repeating the process until you have enough. If you do this too fast it becomes peanut butter so it is important to blend on low in small amounts and sift often. My husband usually takes about ten minutes to get a 32 oz container full of peanut powder. If you aren’t patient enough for that, you can find peanut powder […]
