Balancing Health and Beauty

How I found my happy place with my beauty routine *Post contains sponsored and affiliate links-read more about that and our medical disclaimer here* THE HISTORY So much has changed with me on my long health journey, and even since starting this blog 2 years ago! Aside from my diet drastically evolving, I’ve adapted other aspects of my health and self-care routine, particularly my cosmetics regimen. I have gone from being totally uninformed on what is “healthy” for my skin, to being straight up persnickety, to where I am now, just going with the flow. The topic of a healthy skin and hair care routine is controversial, to say the least. Like many things, it can also be quite subjective. While I’m no stranger to the concerns with ingredients of cosmetics, as with anything, it’s important to evaluate whether the potential risks outweigh the benefits. It is also important to […]

Himalayan Salt Scrub Review-Majestic Pure

I recently received Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals Himalayan Salt Scrub at a discount for testing purposes, and I absolutely love it! Here is my honest review of the product. Himalayan salt scrub is said to have many benefits that include: helping detoxify the body by balancing systemic pH, helping improve hydration and mineral status of the body, and reduce muscle cramps by improving mineral hydration. The best benefit in my opinion is that it could maybe help after intense workouts instead of using NSAID pain relievers! I also really love the fact that it contains only real, recognizable,  simple ingredients: Himalayan salt, Sweet Almond Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Grape Seed Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Lychee Fruit Essential Oil, Vitamin E, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice. It has a very nice feel with application and smells amazing, fruity and a little perfumey as well. After rinsing my skin felt moisturized and softer. I will say be mindful when […]

Hot Cream Review-Majestic Pure

I recently received Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals Hot Cream at a discount for testing purposes, and I absolutely love it! Here is my honest review of the product. Hot Cream is said to provide benefits with topical application, which include soothing and relaxing tight tired muscles after a workout, with powerful ingredients such as peppermint and pine which naturally reduce inflammation and alleviate soreness while chamomile and eucalyptus provide relief to muscle. It is also said to help reduce cellulite, burn fat and tighten skin-however I did not test it for these purposes. I love working out but can be a real wimp the days that follow-which usually means I either skip working out until the soreness goes away, or take NSAIDs to relieve the pain/soreness once it sets in. I wanted to try using this in place of over the counter pain relievers in the days following a heavy workout. So I actually did 3 […]

Arabica Coffee Scrub Review-Majestic Pure

I recently received Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals Arabica Coffee Scrub at a discount for testing purposes, and I absolutely love it! Here is my honest review of the product. Coffee scrub is said to have several benefits that include: exfoliating and anti-inflammatory properties, temporary reduction of cellulite, improved circulation, reduced eye puffiness, and smooth skin. I wanted to use it to help reduce puffiness and the appearance of dark circles under my eyes-which it did! Before even receiving the product-I noticed the fact that this product is almost entirely organic and contains only real recognizable ingredients: Dead Sea Salt Granules, Dead Sea Salt, Organic Kona Coffee, Organic Olive Oil, Organic Sweet Almond Oil, Organic Grape Seed Oil, Coffee Arabica Seed Oil, Organic Shea Butter, Cacao Extract, Organic Coconut Extract. The smell was the first thing I noticed about this when I opened the lid. It smells better than my morning cup of […]

Vitamin C Serum Review-Majestic Pure

I had been looking into trying Vitamin C serum, then received the Majestic Pure Cosmeceuticals Vitamin C Serum at a discounted price to test it! Here is my unbiased review. What is Vitamin C Serum? Vitamin C Serum is designed to help your skin produce collagen naturally, fight free radicals and even out skin tone and texture, as well as help clear acne, fade scars and diminish wrinkles. With regular use, it’s said to have the ability to reduce age spots, dark circles under the eyes, sun damage and wrinkles… I have been hearing friends rave about it as well.. so of course I wanted to try it! It Really Worked! I loved what this product did for my skin on so many levels! It cleared up the blemishes I was getting from the weather changes, evened out my skin tone, particularly the redness and undereye circles. It also […]

VitaTops-Healthier Muffin Review

If you know my story, you may recall that for a long time I was unable to eat gluten. Well, now I can eat anything, which is a great feeling! I do try to eat healthy foods in general but do not like to sacrifice taste, and definitely enjoy my fair share of breads and baked goods. I recently tried a delicious new product called VitaTops MuffinTops. These are basically shaped like the top portion of a muffin (the best part) but unlike most other packaged muffins, they are made with cleaner, healthier-for-you ingredients. Since they don’t use any artificial ingredients or preservatives, they require you to freeze them for best results. They’re actually pretty versatile since they need to be frozen. You can eat them a few different ways, as found on their website, here are the most recommended ways to eat them: Terrific Toasted – Toasted VitaTops leave a […]

Making Exercise A Habit

The year 2016 is in the past. The year 2017 is among us. It’s time to take action! Many people strive to set New Year Resolutions. Statistically speaking, about two-thirds of the adult population in the US set some type of fitness goal. Unfortunately, only about 9% of the population manage to stick to their resolution. The ultimate fix: make exercise a habit. “But how do I do that”, I hear you frantically shouting. Personally, I’ve found 3 key methods to make completing your exercise goal stick. 1. Set the Goal   Now, I know what you’re thinking: I already set my goal! Sure, you might have come up with a general idea of what you want, like losing weight or going to the gym. Unfortunately, those kinds of goals are vague and don’t last long. In order to set a solid goal, it must be specific! A good example would […]

DIY: HEALTHY HOMEMADE FACIAL

Guest Post From: Amanda Kintz, RN, of crunchyhippielife.com When I was younger and single (read: more available funds), I used to treat myself to a facial every month. It was a wonderful time of relaxation and pampering, but the $75 price tag made it out of the question once I was married and we had a stricter budget. I still wanted that special “me time,” so after some research, I developed a cheap, easy facial experience using only things in my pantry. The bonus was that these natural products were much healthier for my body! To make this facial, you will need the following: Honey (preferably raw) Coconut Oil (I like this brand of raw organic oil)   Baking Soda Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)  INSTRUCTIONS Step 1: Apply a thin layer of honey to your face. Let it sit for 5 minutes or so. I do this daily as I’m […]

Forget About Healthy Holidays

You DON’T Need To Stay Healthy During “The Holidays” I intended to write a post with ideas for staying healthy during “the holidays” and kind of did… but in a different way than I expected. There is a popular idea that we need to adhere to certain “rules” around the holidays to stay “healthy” and “be good” etc, whatever that means. I hope to inspire some of you reading to maybe look from another perspective, particularly those who may self-shame for indulging during certain times when the “good” thing to do is stay strict…. If you are a die hard stick to the diet person, even against all odds (like holiday temptations) then great for you! If this is a habit or choice that serves you and you feel like you are doing the best thing for your overall health, I support that 100%. Maybe you are one who is just […]

Ideas For A Healthy Road Trip!

Who Else Loves Road Trips?! It can be so nice to take a long drive with great company, whether for business or pleasure. My husband and I absolutely love going for long drives through the beautiful PNW, either for weekend or day trips! We are as spontaneous as we can be with local adventures despite having our day jobs, side projects and kiddos, plus everyday household things to take care of. When you are living in such a beautiful part of the country where it is literally just a few hours (or less) from so many amazing outdoor adventures, road trips are inevitable for anyone who enjoys time outdoors! Whether it is a last minute ordeal or planned excursion, whether we were in the mood for a long drive or not, we at least get to enjoy that time together. Sometimes it feels like a daunting chore to prepare for or be surprised with a long trip, especially in regards to food when you are striving for a healthy diet each day. […]

“What is Paleo?”

“You never get sick, what is your secret?” “What do you eat everyday?” “How do you look so great? What makeup do you use?” “What is Paleo?” “Why do you eat that way?” “Are you allergic?” I get these and more similar questions a LOT… I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve happily and enthusiastically begun to answer this since I started eating this way in 2012. Seriously… The best conversation I had with a fellow nutrition nerd was when I once ran into a local chiropractor in the coconut milk section of New Seasons back in 2013. At the time I was doing as hard core elimination diet and AIP paleo-ish healing diet. We exchanged words about what kinds of coconut products we each buy and why, what we use it for, etc… that’s when I realized he was more knowledgeable in paleo/real food than I was… this is not something I was […]
